Legal Protections for Victims/Survivors of Domestic Violence
Although Circle advocates are not lawyers and are unable to provide you with legal advice, we can support you as you and your family navigate the family and district (criminal) court system. We can assist you if you are applying for a Protection Order, commonly known as Protection or Restraining Orders, and then help you prepare for your final hearing.
Our advocates are available 24 hours for this service. When domestic violence charges have been filed in the district court, we can support you through that process and connect you with the State’s Attorney’s Victim Assistant. In some instances, Circle can also support survivors through divorce, custody, and other legal family matters.
If legal assistance is necessary, our advocates refer people to our monthly legal clinic, Vermont Legal Aid, or an attorney who may be able to help.
